Serenity for the Soul

Enkosini is a bushveld haven, offering a unique bush experience for nature lovers seeking more than the classic "Big Five." Steeped in history and beauty, Enkosini is a spectacular 11,000 acre preserve located on a magnificent escarpment of rolling Mpumalanga middle-veld mountains and plains. It is home to incredible rock formations; waterfalls and rockpools with clean, rushing spring water; and a myriad of indigenous fauna and flora. Renowned for its scenery and abundant birdlife, Enkosini offers a tranquil getaway for individuals and small groups up to twelve. Families and groups will love the relaxed atmosphere of this special South African retreat.

One of South Africa's most picturesque bush camps, the Enkosini Bush Lodge nestles into a magnificent valley on the banks of a watercourse, blending in with its natural surroundings and commanding beautiful views. The camp is completely eco-friendly and has been built almost entirely from rock and other natural materials from the sanctuary. We maintain harmony with nature by using solar power, paraffin lanterns, gas/fire water heaters, and outdoor "safari" showers.

Dinners are eaten outside around an open fire in a boma under the stars, or out in the bush on a "braai", surrounded by nature. Five en-suite rock chalets with private decks that overlook the stunning valley provide an authentic, intimate nature experience.

Enkosini is intentionally small, allowing close personal attention to our guests. Pure relaxation in the bush is mixed with good food, eagles soaring overhead, and the sounds of wildlife calling at dawn and dusk. Days are filled exploring the sanctuary by horseback or 4x4, swimming in rockpools, or visiting local homesteads to experience traditional culture.

Enkosini is a hikers paradise, and guides lead bush-walks to bushman rock paintings and spectacular waterfalls, educating guests on vegetation, animal life and local lore. The sheer expanse and stark beauty of the sanctuary gives a sense of humbleness, and provides an antidote to stresses of everyday living. Enkosini allows its guests to be at peace, to fully relax in rustic tranquility, solitude and introspection. Coming away from Enkosini, one is left with a feeling of true intimacy with Africa.Quietly luxurious, Enkosini is a window into the magic of the African bush.
